Written Assignment:  same as Monday–1 John 1:1-4 in Bateman

**********DUE MON, 9-28-09**********

Written Assignment:  Complete the syntactic analysis and semantic classification of 1 John 1:1-4 in Bateman (Study Guide 9, pp. 155-171).  NOTE:  You are not required to do Steps 2-4 or 10-12.  We are focusing on *syntax* based on identifying form and function, so steps 1, 5-9 are of critical importance.  Once you’re done working through each verse, *then* provide a suitable English translation.  HINT:  When you’re working through this, you should have several reference works open to consult:  [1] Mounce textbook (=M); [2] Wallace Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics (=W), BDAG, and your Greek NT.  Whenever Bateman tells you to read or consult a section of Wallace, do so!  This is where you will learn the various syntax categories/options for grammatical forms, and how to understand the meaning of them (semantic classification).

**********DUE FRI, 9-25-09**********

Friday is our BDAG day, since we weren’t able to do much of this on Wednesday.  So all of the BDAG assignment that was due for Wednesday is due Friday.

Reading:  Read carefully the introduction to A Workbook for Intermediate Greek (Bateman), pp. 9-16.  We will start working through the workbook next week.

**********DUE WED, 9-23-09**********

In class on Wed. we will:  [1] Have a Quiz on Diagramming; [2] Talk about BDAG lexicon.  BRING YOUR BDAG TO CLASS.

Quiz Prep:  Use the Diagramming Quiz PRACTICE SHEET for Greek (Click Here for Word Doc)  to prepare for this.  To see what I’m expecting, please read it!  :)

Reading:  Read carefully Decker “Using BDAG” (pp. 245-262 of Koine Greek Reader) and the BDAG “Introduction” (pp. xiii-xxix).

Assignment: When reading Decker, have your BDAG open and look up EVERYTHING he tells you to look up and consider.  It is designed to help you understand the nature of the lexical entries and how best to use this very valuable resource.
