[1]  Know the forms of αυτος  well enough to be able to parse any form for case, #, and gender.  You can do this by reviewing the handout “Forms of the Article,” since the endings of αυτος are almost identical to the forms of the article.

REMINDER: be sure that for nouns, you’re memorizing not only the lexical form (the nom. sing.), and not only the genitive sing. form, BUT ALSO the article that goes with the lexical form (because it tells you the gender of the noun!).  You can’t really parse nouns without knowing the gender, and Mounce always gives you the gender by putting ὁ (indicates masculine), ἡ (indicates feminine), or τό (indicates neuter) after the lexical form and the genitive sing. form.
